Arte by Humans

We are digital migrants. We were born before the internet as we know it took off. We remember a time before google and social networks and before the word algorithm meant anything. Antonio used computers without graphical interfaces. Rosa knows what floppy disks are and what they were used for. Neither of us grew up with smartphones.

Because we lived through the most furious phase of the first digital revolution, we understand change, and we understand the speed at which that change has come and will continue to come. Technology has gradually permeated our lives, our entertainment, and our interactions. It has served as a vital tool for our art and work.

But it is also true that we are at an inflection point that is different from what has come before. The machines and software that we have created can increasingly generate complex and often impressive constructions of images, text and video. We don’t know what the ever expanding webs of neural networks will produce next, but they will keep evolving at an exponential rate. The genie is out of the bottle.

And we have no idea where that is going to lead. As with the first digital revolution we witnessed, there is sure to be a fair amount of social, economic and political upheaval. Some of it is intriguing, a lot of it is scary.

What we do know is that while we are alive, we hold our creativity and love as the purest expression of our humanity because it is in the service of people. At the end of the day, we dedicate our work and talents to people. We make community with people, we eat with people, we work with people, the artists we adore are people, our friends are people.

For those who still love sharing your grand visions and passions over cafecito, thank you for choosing arte by humans.
